can a filipina who has a temporary visa can marry a japanese through or by an attorney in japan?

  • TokyoE posted: 01 Nov at 8:41 am

    No attorney’s needed:

    1. If she wants to marry a Japanese person, go to the city ward office where the boyfriend lives.
Get married at the city ward office.
    Marriage is just paperwork.
They can do the ceremony later.
Ceremony and marriage legally is two different things.

MAKE SURE SHE DOES NOT OVERSTAY HER TEMPORARY VISITOR VISA.

    2. After they get married at city ward office/ city hall, take the paperwork to Immigration Office and apply for ‘SPOUSE VISA’ , wait for spouse visa to be approved.

Again MAKE SURE SHE DOES NOT OVERSTAY HER TEMPORARY VISITOR VISA. So in case “SPOUSE VISA” is being processed, and Temporary Visitor Visa expries, she has to leave Japan and wait until Spouse Visa is approved.

She might have to leave Japan, but once Spouse Visa is approved she can enter and leave Japan as much as she wants.

No need for lawyers / attorneys.

If her boyfriend is Japanese he should know these things and be able to work a lot of it for her.

Have him call the city ward/city hall office in Japan where he lives and find out which documents is required to get married.

There are many of so-called “sham marriage” between Filipina and Japanese men. So immigration officers in Japan are sensitive to marriages of this kind. It’s likely that her spouse visa be rejected by officials.

It’s possible to apply for a spouse visa directly. But another way is to take “Certificate of Eligibility For a Status of Residence” which is like a prerequisite for visa.

If you took Certificate of Eligibility For a Status of Residence at first, the issuance of visa will be much faster and easier.

When you apply for Certificate of Eligibility For a Status of Residence, you can ask lawyers like in the below link.

It takes money. But it makes her application more certain. The process will be as follows.

1, Apply for Certificate of Eligibility For a Status of Residence in Japan
2, Go back to Philippines and wait for Certificate of Eligibility For a Status of Residence.
3, Her BF receives it in Japan and send it to her.
4, She applies for a spouse visa at Japanese Embassy or Consulate in Philippines.

I think this procedure is more certain.

You’ve already got some good info, I’ll just add my two cents here…
Yes she can, but they may also do the process themselves. I believe it’s faster.
★Getting Married and Applying for the Japanese Visa of the Marriage Partner
Step 1. Apply for and receive a certificate of legal capacity to contract marriage.
This can be done at the Consulate General of Japan in Manila.
Step 2: Apply for and receive a marriage license
This can be done at the city hall or the municipality in which the Philippine national resides.
Step 3 Legally marry and sign the marriage certificate
Step 4: Submit a report of marriage form to the appropriate Japanese officials.
This may be submitted to either the city hall in the city of Japan in which the Japanese national resides or to the Consulate General of Japan in Manila.
Step 5: Apply for and receive a certificate of eligibility.
This can be done through the office of the Japanese Regional Immigration Bureau that is closest to the city in Japan in which the Japanese national resides. :
Step 6 Apply for and receive the Japanese visa of the Philippine national.
This can be done at the Consulate General of Japan in Manila
~☆PLEASE check this↑ site for accurate info:

★PLEASE NOTE, just because your spousal visa is approved does NOT allow you “to enter and leave Japan as much as you want”! ★
You must also apply and pay for a “Re entry permit”. You can get a single or a multiple. They recommend a multiple so you can easily go and return as you like. It’s not much, maybe 3000 yen to 6000 yen. You get this at Immigration as well.
“A re-entry permit should be obtained before departure at a regional immigration office. If you depart Japan without this permit, it could take more than one month to obtain permission to re-enter, and you will not re-enter Japan as scheduled. If you do not re-enter within the period stipulated in the re-entry permit, more complex procedures must be followed even with the permit. Both upon temporary departure and re-entry, you must always carry your alien registration certificate with you, but you do not have to return the certificate to the immigration. Be careful not to lose it while away from Japan.”

Good luck, Congratulations and I hope this helps!
